“Accidental SEAL” by Sharon Hamilton & GIVEAWAY!!!

Title: Accidental SEAL
Author: Sharon Hamilton
Publisher: Self
Length: 100,000 words
Genres: Contemporary Erotic Navy SEAL/Military Romance

Available at: Amazon

Christy Nelson embarks on her new career in Real Estate by holding her first open house. Entering the wrong house, by accident, she finds the nude sleeping body of a young man.

Navy SEAL Kyle Lansdowne, on a mission to find his AWOL Team buddy, is staying at his buddy’s home while investigating the disappearance. When someone breaks in, he takes protective measures. He doesn’t expect to find that a beautiful young woman is responsible for his teammate’s abduction.

What starts out as a meeting by accident becomes a hot affair neither one is ready for. Kyle is conflicted about getting Christy involved in his mission, but his hand is forced when he learns the same San Diego gang responsible for his teammate’s abduction has kidnapped her.

Battling a cadre of dirty law enforcements hell-bent on getting military equipment, especially state-of-the-art firepower, Kyle is forced to admit that he would die to protect her.

Christy’s red Honda looked like a wet cherry lollipop, shined and polished to perfection. Cute and shiny on the outside, but hot and sweltering on the inside. Sitting in the cramped front seat, she stopped and squinted to make out house numbers, comparing them to the address Wayne had minutely scribbled on the back of his business card. Then she found it.

The house appeared nicer than he’d described. The advertised price, he said, was the lowest in the neighborhood, going back ten years. Hopefully she’d pick up a young couple out looking for their first home, complete with good credit and a wad of cash from Mommy and Daddy. Wouldn’t it be great to make a sale on her very first day on the job?

She parked in the driveway, popped the trunk, and brought out three sandwich signs with the Patterson Realty logo, on loan from Wayne. He was out with his family today. She hoped the Somervilles didn’t stop by since she’d feel uncomfortable looking into the eyes of Wayne’s wife, a woman he probably cheated on and would again, if he got the chance. One of Christy’s other rules: no married men. She wasn’t about to change that, either.

A perfumed late spring breeze blew softly against her face and neck, sending a thrill up her spine. The air ripened with possibility. This was her favorite time of year.

The walkway looked freshly swept. After placing one sign in the front yard, she stacked the other two beside the front door and inserted Wayne’s key. While the lock accepted the new shiny silver metal, the tumblers stayed in place, frozen.

Way to go Wayne. Waste my time and give me the wrong key!

Irritation bubbled, ruining her cheerful, spring-induced mood. She yanked on the front handle and pushed against it out of frustration. It opened.

“Anybody home?” Her voice wavered like that of a small child. She waited. No answer.

Christy stepped inside, onto a striped cotton rug lying cockeyed behind the front door. The smell of fried food hit her. She walked across the wooden floor of the living room, her stilettos clacking. She cracked open a window. Air scented by fresh blossoms poured in, diluting the smells of ordinary life. She grabbed the newspaper tossed on top of an ottoman and folded the crinkling pages under her arm, aiming for the kitchen to find a trashcan. She passed the dining room table, which was strewn with a map of the area, a couple of felt-tipped pens, and a letter-sized yellow lined tablet. She collected these items as well and made her way to the kitchen.

Christy threw the tablet and newspaper onto the tiled countertop and placed her hands on her hips to assess the scene before her. She squinted at several days’ worth of dishes piled high in the sink. Next to it, a large stainless steel bowl sat encrusted with dark green and purple leaves at the bottom, evidence of a salad—several days old.

Maybe Wayne had neglected to tell the sellers about the open house. She decided it was entirely possible. “How can you expect to sell a house this way?” she muttered, then sighed and removed her jacket, slinging it over the back of a clean-looking kitchen chair. She decided to take a tour of the place, checking for other things to clean or straighten before she’d be ready to hold it open.

But this house was such a mess, an uneasy darkness chilled her. She tiptoed down the carpeted hallway, feeling like an intruder, past empty rooms, to a closed door at the end.

Probably the master bedroom.

Something about the whole scene was strange. These people left without cleaning up dinner from several days before, in a hurry. She’d been told short sale houses rarely showed pride of ownership, but this felt absolutely creepy, like she’d stepped on someone’s grave. The hair at the back of her neck bristled as she gripped the doorknob. She lightly tapped with her other hand, and then opened the door.

A naked body lay on the bed.

Holy crap.

Hesitant to look at first, she pushed through her fear. She saw movement. Tanned skin, a muscular male chest that rose and fell. Earphones were wired to a phone balanced on his open palm. The man was very much alive, and healthy. Her eyes drifted further down to a dusting of dark brown hair that led to an impossible-to-miss erection. His penis stood at attention, like a deep rose-colored light standard under a matching fireman’s hat of deeper pink.

Blood pumped to her ears, making them ring, as her heart raced. A wave of anger coursed over her at the realization she had been the victim of a very sick joke perpetrated by Wayne and one of his disgusting friends.

Christy silently closed the door and tiptoed back down the carpeted hallway, her three-inch heels wobbling on the thick, padded surface. Her knees knocked against each other as she picked up speed, her anger building. She grabbed her jacket, keys, and purse, and crossed the living room, headed toward the front door. She was almost free.

Christy wouldn’t give the prankster the satisfaction of knowing she had even seen him. She wanted to stomp her foot and kick something through the window. This was Wayne’s doing.

That sonofabitch and his lopsided plugs will pay for this.

She pulled the door handle and was rewarded by the smells of a warm spring day bleeding through the inch-wide crack she’d created. An enormous hand and forearm came from behind her and slammed the door shut. She saw a familiar blue-green tattoo of some animal tracks on his muscled forearm just before his other hand gripped her mouth. Callused fingers pinched the sides of her cheeks. The grip hurt.

Toni's Review of Stalking the Others by Jess Haines ***4.5 Stars***

Vampires, werewolves, mages–the Others are very real, and wreaking havoc in Shiarra Waynest’s life. But now, she’s returning the favor…

Once, she was one of the good guys–or as close as a New York P.I. can get. Then Shiarra Waynest was drawn into the world of the Others. Every faction has its own loyalties and agenda. And Shia’s recent betrayal by her ex-boyfriend means that she may be on the verge of becoming a rogue werewolf at the next full moon.

Of course, with all the threats against her, Shia’s not sure she’ll live long enough to find out. The enigmatic vampire Royce wants her back in his clutches, as do two powerful werewolf packs, along with the police. Instead of going into hiding, Shia is enlisting the aid of her enchanted hunter’s belt and every dirty P.I. trick she knows. If she’s going down, she’ll take out as many of her enemies as she can–and hope that in the process, she keeps whatever humanity she has left…

Scheduled release date is July 3, 2012

I have to say that this series is new for me.  When I requested Stalking the Others, I knew that this was book four and that I would have to play catch up.  I’m glad I picked it and I’m really glad I had this book after finishing book three, Deceived by the Others.  Get ready for a kick-ass ride!

The Sunstriker pack is on the run.  Their crimes have been revealed, and everyone is looking for them.  The person top on the list:  Shiarra Waynest.  Shiarra has a mission.  Take out every one who has wronged her.  She as a month to do it and she will do anything to accomplish it.  Enemies beware; this woman will take you down.

This one time good girl is now bad.  Over the years, Shiarra has been forced into a world she never wanted to enter.  This new world has ruined her life and broken her heart, but rather than dwell and sulk about it she runs head first into the battle.  You really have to admire her for that.  She may not do the smartest things and may not be the strongest one out there, but you can’t fault her determination.

Stalking the Others is a fast, action packed novel.  I really can’t go more into the story, since I really don’t want to give it away.  I had moments of deep emotion, elation and fist pumping “Heck, yeahs”.  There are also more stories to be told.  I can only hope that Ms. Haines is going to quickly crank out the next in the series.

Since I don’t want to give the plot and surprises away, I will mention a bit more about the series.  H&W Investigation in my opinion is very good Urban Fantasy.  I sometimes have a hard time connecting with this genre, but I did with ease with this series.  Shia is not your normal heroine.  Some people complain about her weakness, but I find her traits more believable than the norm.  She is human, and her actions and thoughts portray that.  She doesn’t instantly become a super heroine.  The buildup is slow and I liked it.  She makes a lot of errors and even at the end of this book she retains her believability for me.

The first two books in the series; Hunted by the Others and Taken by the Others, were not as enjoyable as the last two were for me.  Ms. Haines has definitely picked it up and has improved on the series.  Now with her world building done, she is fully engaged in the plot and it shows.  As a whole I would recommend this series.

You want something new and exciting?  Then you need to pick up H&W Investigations.  This is a wonderful Urban Fantasy series with a teeny tiny touch of romance (it’s barely there).  The action is amazing and the characters are engaging.  When you need something a little different, I would look no farther than right here.

Toni's Review of The Man of My Dreams by Gladys Quintal ***4 Stars***

Ever since the death of her parents at the age of 17, Cassie has been dreaming about a dark haired man. He always comes to her in times of trouble to comfort her and help her through the toughest of days. But now after the devastating break up with her boyfriend, Cassie struggles with separating reality from her dreams.

During a trip to her family beach house, her dream man becomes her lover and Cassie finds herself longing for this man to be in her life. But trying to find out the truth about him leaves her questioning her very existence and sanity.

She is convinced her dream man is real and connected to a string of macabre murders over the last 20 years. Fearing for her life, Cassie prays she is right about him and that he can save her before it is too late.

NOTE FROM AUTHOR: This mentions of a sexual abuse case, attempted rapes and and a sadistic serial killer.

All I can say is…UGH!  I bet that has you thinking…WHAT??

Cassie is wondering what is going on.  For most of her life she has had dreams of a knight in not-so-shiny armor.  He is always there when she needs him; holding her through the pain, comforting her during her sadness, saving her when she needs help.  But he is always in the shadows, never quite there.  Suddenly now he is more, much more.  His arms have become her home and her body craves this secret man with a passion.  What do these erotic dreams mean?  Her brain tells her, he is only a dream, but her body is saying something different.  Is he a vision, a man or a monster?  Who is he?  What is he?

Thinks are happening in her town and have been for a very long time.  There is a killer on the loose.  This killer seeks to rid the world of deprived evil; a type of evil that hurts good decent people.  The killer is killing killers.  Does that make them good or evil?

Cassie is questioning her sanity, but she is beginning to see a pattern.  Can her dream man be this vigilante killer?  Is she losing her mind and her heart?

WOW – what a different story!  The Man of My Dreams is detailed, deep and well thought out.  Ms. Quintal really dives in and you learn a lot about Cassie, but she skates around this mystery man.  You know what he is and basically why.  You understand the basic reasons why he does what he does, but he is written just out of our reach.  Ms. Quintal teases us; “here is a little taste, nope that is all you get”.  You are left on the edge of understanding and you get nothing more.  It is a bit hard to explain.  I was left wanting more of him and in the end, I was pleased and yet pleasantly shocked.

I do have to warn you.  There are disturbing scenes and subject matters involved and the ending is very abrupt.  I personally did not have any issues with the story, but some may.  Some of the elements are graphic, but they are written in a way that didn’t bother me, but got the point across clearly.  In regards to the ending, you will want the next book right away, I know I do.  I am pleased to report there are two more so far in the series.  Be Careful What You Wish For is currently out and The Chosen One is out the end of June 2012.

I have no idea where this series going, but I do know I want a front row seat!  Great job Ms. Quintal!  You have a new fan and I can say she is very pleased!

Thanks for reading - Toni

Please Welcome Author SHERRY GLOAG
to Books Read 'N' Makeup Done

Thank you for inviting me to visit with you today, and I hope I can answer your query about how my characters evolve.

Where characters come from and how do they form? Not as straight forward a question as it may seem, because if you asked 100 authors you’d get a 100 different answers. There may be a thread of similarity weaving through their answers, but not one of those authors would offer the same explanation.

My characters usually turn up when I am doing something completely unrelated to writing. I often wonder, whether like actors, they wait in the wings of my subconscious until they ‘hear’ their cue.

Take Melanie in From Now Until Forever. I was busy minding my own business when she turned up and ‘showed’ me the scene of Liam being shot at. The settings, the smells, the sounds were all in vibrant colour and sound. His cussing (which had to be toned down for my publisher – LOL) equalled the indignant screeching from the birds at having their serenity shattered. I could ‘see’ the sunlight glinting on Liam’s golden hair.

So then I had to find out who Melanie was, what she was doing there and why she opened contact with that scene. From there I had to find out why someone would shoot at Liam, who were they, and more importantly, who was Liam?

Without giving away too much information, I can tell you Melanie is Liam’s bodyguard. But she is also a whole lot more; and it’s that ‘more’ that creates a lot of the secondary and romantic suspense in From Now Until Forever.

So who is Liam? Why does he need a bodyguard? Because he’s a prince. A prince with attitude and beliefs he is convinced are right. But that doesn’t explain why someone is taking a pot-shot at him, does it? After all, when you think about it, there’s a whole bunch of princes kicking around the world today and no one’s taking pot-shots at them, are they?

Now I have to find out who the ‘bad guy is, and whether there’s more than one of them. Having done that I have to work out what is behind their attacks on Liam. It’s not easy if, like me, you don’t plot these things before you start writing. The relationship between the ‘bad-guys’ shifted and twisted in several directions before it finally evolved into the one that runs through From Now Until Forever.

Not until I read my first ever review for a different romance I considered myself a writer of contemporary romances. I had no idea I added in suspense. Tension, yes, black moments, of course, but suspense, ‘scuse me, where did that come from? But From Now Until Forever zipped from one suspenseful moment to another so fast, at times I could hardly keep up.

Nor did I realize From Now Until forever was going to be the first in a four-book series about the Gasquet Princes, so when Liam’s oldest brother, and heir to their father’s throne, Henri, demanded he have his own story, His Chosen Bride, I didn’t even know I’d already met his eventual bride.

Monica, is the antithesis of Melanie. Where Melanie is a do it now lady and on top of her security job, Monica has baggage so heavy she can hardly lift it. But she has something else that, from her point of view, complicates her life much more. She has a Gift she considers acurse more often than not, especially as several potential boyfriends have walked away from her when they discover more about it. Until now, those defections have upset her but not felled her. With Henri, Monica knows everything has changed. For her ‘he’s the one’ regardless of his status and the difference in their family backgrounds. She doesn’t expect anything more from Henri than… well maybe much more than she’s admitting to herself, but if he ridicules her Gift she knows it will devastate her.

As for Henri, how could I take him out of, what is for him, his safe and comfortable environment and shake him out of his acquiescence of his circumstances? By getting his father to kick Henri out of the palace! I had the king, ban Henri from participating in anything to do with his royal duties and functions— not just for a day, a week, but several months. Think of taking a city-slicker and dumping them on a deserted island… see what I mean?

Unlike From Now Until Forever, His Chosen Bride has no chases, no shooting, instead it has a great deal of personal tension for both Monica and Henri. They are robbed of their personal convictions and made to see their worlds from new perspectives. Instead of people taking pot shots at the hero and heroine, in His Chosen bride passion rules, but will it win out in the end or will it rob Monica and Henri of their chance to find their destiny?

EXCERPT: “From Now Until Forever”:

“And now, my sweet wife, it is time for me to go.”

Emotions churned in his chest. Love, betrayal, grief for the loss of a lifestyle he’d come to love.

“And where do you think you are going?”

The sharpness of her voice sliced through his mourning.

“It is better for you not to know.”

“And why is that?” The full weight of an Arctic freeze laced her voice.

“It’s better I go alone.” How could he reveal the reasons?

Her gaze, as cold as a glacier, challenged him to continue, and when he didn’t she thumped his chest with her fist.

“Nothing to say?” she jibed. “Well, you listen to me.”

Before he guessed her intention, she shoved him away.

“You’re right. You have to leave today, but you’re not going alone.”

GIVEAWAY & Toni's Review of Bedding Lord Ned by Sally MacKenzie ***4 Stars***

Pleasure Is On Her Dance Card

Determined to find a husband, Miss Eleanor "Ellie" Bowman attends a ball put on by the Duchess of Greycliffe, fondly referred to as the Duchess of Love. But she roundly dismisses the suitors the matchmaking hostess has invited on her behalf. For it's the duchess' dashing son, Ned, Lord Edward, who long ago captured Ellie's heart—and roused her desire. All it takes is a pair of conveniently misplaced silky red bloomers to set the handsome widower's gaze on this unusual girl who is clearly more than meets the eye.

After four years of mourning, Ned must find a wife. At first glance, the birthday ball his mother has thrown in his honor is decidedly lacking in suitable mistresses. But he senses something unexpectedly alluring beneath the veil of Ellie's plain exterior—and suddenly she's invading his dreams in a decidedly scandalous manner.

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to move on.

For years Ellie has loved Ned.  They grew up together, but he never saw her as more than a sister.  She watched him fall in love with her good friend, Cicely, marry her then bury her.  She was also there for him during his years of mourning.  She is not getting any younger and she refuses to be the spinster aunt.  During this year’s annual birthday party, she is going to move on.  She is going to welcome the advances of single men and she is going to be open to the possibilities.  Now she just needs to convince her heart.

Four years ago, Ned lost his loving perfect wife and son, during childbirth.  He has decided that he must move on and find a new wife and start filling his nursery.  Nothing like taking advantage of the hand selected single women at the annual Valentine House Party.  The men and women that the Duchess of Love invites are carefully selected for optimal matchmaking.  There is nothing like the present to take advantage of his mother’s skills.  It shouldn’t be too hard.  He only wants a wife; he doesn’t ever want to find love again.  This should be very simple.

While a storm stirs outside Greycliffe Castle, the six men and six women are entertained by the Duke and the Duchess.  Meals are shared, games are played and attachments are made.  Things are shaping up, but not how the Duchess of Love ever expected.  All she can do is set the stage.  Now she has to sit back and allow the players to play the game.

This is a very pleasant read.  I do highly suggest that you read the prequel The Duchess of Love prior to beginning this novel.  It is a very fun introduction to the woman behind the Duchess of Love.  I will admit that I may have enjoyed her tale even more than Ned’s.  Now approximately 30 years after the prequel, she is still up to her matchmaking shenanigans, but on a much larger scale.  This story might be how Ellie and Ned finally come together, but the Duchess is always in the background actually having more fun than the main couple.  I liked it!

The duration of the story happens in the days leading up to the annual Valentine Ball.  You spend many days and nights with the couples as they learn about each other and discover if there will be any love matches.  Bedding Lord Ned is not action packed, smutty, or even overly comedic.  It is a very pleasant enjoyable read that takes you on a journey of discovery.

I was a bit disappointed at the abrupt ending of the book though.  I enjoyed how Ellie finally found her courage, and Ned emerged from his slump, but it happened rather quickly and when it was done, well it was just done.  I would have enjoyed a bit more of the aftermath.  There was also no set up for the next book.  That can actually be a good thing, because I’m not a fan of cliff hangers, but I have no clue who the next “victim” will be for the Duchess.

I have been drawn in.  I am anxious to find out more about the mystery behind Ash’s marriage.  I can’t wait to meet the woman that will eventually tame the youngest of the Valentine men.  I wonder if she will expand beyond her immediate family and find matches for some of the people we have met in this story.  Oh I could go on and on, but suffice it to say…I’m hooked.  Good or bad, love or hate – I want more Duchess of Love!
Thanks for Reading - Toni

HONOR by Janet Dailey 5 STARS!

With relentless suspense and a deft feel for creating men of power and character, Janet Dailey introduces three unforgettable brothers: RJ, Linc, and Deke Bannon. Rugged. Tall. Built to last. Linc Bannon has it all - and he's there every time Kenzie needs him. They share a mission: to serve their country stateside, Linc in high-level intelligence and Kenzie as an expert trainer of combat dogs.

Independent and sexy, Kenzie is definitely one of a kind - and the only one he wants. But if you ask her, she doesn't need a hero in her life. Until two of her friends, thousands of miles apart, are suddenly struck down. One, a soldier, is dead; the other, a civilian, is barely alive. Linc goes into action and uncovers a lethal web connecting the tragic events. A killer is at large, unhinged and with unfinished business. Kenzie has no choice but to join forces with the one man who can get past her defences...

As a hidden conspiracy threatens to explode with devastating consequences, Linc is honour-bound to protect Kenzie. With all his heart, he vows to risk his life for hers...

This was a great read.  From the characters to the plot it was an all around winner.

Janet Dailey did a wonderful job creating complex characters who truly come alive.  Kenzie with her very tough exterior and Linc Bannon who is tough but sweet, all at the same time.

With a killer who is running gambit on Kenzie's nerves, Linc helps her to unravel the mystery of who has tried to kill her friend, though all may not be as it seems.

I suggest you give this book a chance, the mystery and romance are highly entertaining. My friend's would also agree since they have been bugging me to borrow my book but they cannot, it must go in my keep pile...

Toni's Review of No Tan Lines by Kate Angell ***4 Stars***

There's a place where the ocean meets the shore, where kicking off your shoes and baring some skin is as natural as sneaking under the boardwalk for an ice cream cone and stolen kisses. But life isn't all a beach for Shaye Cates, even if her idea of an office is a shady umbrella at the water's edge equipped with cell phone and laptop. Steely-eyed Trace Saunders is the incredibly irksome fly in her coconut tanning oil. And running a kids' softball team with her long-time rival is going to have everyone in her little Florida town buzzing. Her scads of laid-back relatives and his whole uptight clan know that Shaye just wants to play ball while Trace thinks only of business. But beneath the twinkling lights of the ferris wheel, the magic of sea and sand can sweep away every inhibition...Suddenly, it's summertime, and the lovin' is easy.

No Tan Lines is fun, fun, fun.

The town of Barefoot William was founded on freedom, joy and fun.  Leave your worries behind and come to paradise to relax and enjoy yourself.  That has been the basis of this community for generations, unlike the neighboring community of Saunders Shores.  They desire the high life of glitz, riches and exclusivity.  They are the elite and they are far removed from the carefree lifestyle of the laid back town of Barefoot William.  Since the conception of these two communities the Cates and the Saunters have been enemies.  They have battled each other from the very beginning, but all that is about to change.

Shaye is desperate.  She needs to get Trace to agree to rent her a portion of his beach.  The problem is though, they have been enemies since high school and short of the miracle of Trace growing a heart, her hands are tied.  She has already made commitments to the event that will save her community.  Now she needs to figure out how to fulfill them.

Trace is desperate.  His current fling, Nicole, needs a location to open her business, but there is no way the clientele that frequent Saunders Shores would be remotely interested in her products.  He needs to get Shaye to agree to rent her space on her family’s boardwalk, which would be a first.  Well he has something she wants, his beach.  Let the negotiations begin.

Shaye is totally screwed.  She jumped the gun and made plans without Trace’s approval and now Trace has her right where he wants her and he plans to take full advantage of the situation.  Nicole has been taken care of and is now out of his bed.  You’d think all would be grand, but he has more things to worry about.  His body is not cooperating with his brain.  His body desires Shaye, but he knows he can’t have her.  Trace is totally screwed.

While this story revolves mainly around Shaye Cates and Trace Saunders, Ms. Angell has also incorporated two other couples into the plot, but they enhance the novel beautifully.  I think normally that would bother me, but the way they blended in without being too intrusive, it was brilliant.  As soon as I finished the story I was researching who would be next in the series, because their stories were not concluded.  Well don’t bother looking, because my search came up with nothing other than it does look like there are more stories planned for the small town of Barefoot William.  YAY!

If I was going to recommend one book for the summer, it would be No Tan Lines.  It is light, breezy and a pure joy.  I had several laugh out loud moments and I always had a grin on my face.  The characters are wonderful.  The scenery is beautiful and there is nothing to drag it down.  If you don’t read it for those attributes alone, pick it up for Olive.  I’m sorry to leave you hanging and not tell you more about her, but she has got to be the cutest darn character that I have read about in a long time.

My only regret is that I have to wait to find out what happens with the other two couples.  I just hope when their story is shared, I can enjoy the continuation of Shaye and Trace’s relationship.

Pick up No Tan Lines for your vacation, bathtub or just to enjoy by the campfire.  It’s simply a lovely story that is carefree and enchanting.  So grab your beach towel and your sunscreen, because we are on our way to Barefoot William, where the ocean meets the shore.  I just love that line!

Thanks for reading! - Toni

Soon, they’ll find the very secrets driving them apart could ensnare them in a love they can’t escape…

Take one self sufficient smart woman and a man on a mission to clear his family’s name and you get a clash of wills that the small town of Deal has never seen before.

Growing up witnessing the unhappy marriage of her parents has jaded Rheda Kerrich.  Then add an unforeseen scandal and Rheda is now in the perfect position to stay unmarried, which is just fine by her.  She has worked too long and hard to allow a man to rule her world.  She has a community to take care of and a husband would only be in the way.

For over a decade, Rufus has battled the lies that have clouded his family’s world.  He is closing in on the truth and he is not about to let one allusive woman get in his way.  He will just have to be smarter and use every trick he knows to find out the truth.

These two have many secrets between them.  Neither knows what is really at stake and until they can be honest with each other, they won’t get anywhere.  The problem is there is a spy lurking around and is tangled in both their lives.  The spy has secrets that they will kill for and has done so in the past.  Can Rheda and Rufus protect all they love and each other?

This was an exciting read.  While the antagonist hid in the background, you had these two strong people battling their feelings and guarding their individual secrets.  The novel did not revolve around the mystery of their secrets; it was more about the unveiling of it amongst the characters.  As the reader, you knew what was happening most of the time.  But Ms. Evans was very clever and she had other secrets buried that were just as juicy.  It was great to be able to enjoy them later on.  I also had a very good idea, who the antagonist was early on, but the way that Ms. Evans wrote the story, it didn’t take away from the enjoyment of the plot.  It was very well done.

All of the characters involved were such a pleasure to read about.  At times I wanted to clobber Rheda’s brother Daniel and at other times, cheer on the townsfolk.  I enjoyed how they were all unique and how they enhanced the storyline.  But I loved the cat and mouse game that Rheda and Rufus played, most of all.  Just sitting back and wondering who was going to get the upper hand was the best.  Not to mention Ms. Evans starts the book rather saucily and sets the stage for sexy scenes without being too erotic.  Invitation to Scandal is a complex vivid tale that is well balanced.

I did not have the opportunity to read her prior book in this series Invitation to Ruin.  I don’t feel like I missed anything either.  These two books are linked, but they seem to be their own stories.  I truly enjoyed Invitation to Scandal and I plan to read Invitation to Ruin as soon as I can get my hands on it.  It is my hope that Ms. Evans has future plans for the other bachelors in her little corner of England.  She has a wonderful talent to write distinctive plots that are above and beyond the norm and she is a real pleasure to read.  This is a relatively new author to watch.  Great Job!
