TURKISH DELIGHTS BLOG TOUR! AUTHOR LIZ CROWE

Turkey. And Not the One on your Thanksgiving Table Either

If you have been following along so far on my Turkish Delights Trilogy Tour, you know a few things about me.

1. I own a brewery
2. I’ve lived overseas

My husband is an auto exec and most of the major companies have huge overseas interests. As a young family, we took the plunge, left Ann Arbor, Michigan in early 1998 with a 5-year-old, 3-year-old and bun-in-the-oven in tow, headed for Hiroshima Japan. From there we dragged a 7-year-old, 5-year-old and 1.5-year-old to Istanbul, Turkey.

We had a brief American interlude in Overland Park Kansas. During that one single year of Extreme Surburbia (curing me of a need for THAT scene ever again) we were faced with a choice: Sao Paulo, Brazil or Istanbul. This was a very serious decision as you might imagine. The kids were small, I wasn’t working other than, you know, the 24/7 under appreciated drudge work done by so many of us. Brazil was a “compound living/armed guard and driver” sort of arrangement with all sorts of caveats about children and safety.

Istanbul had none of those warnings. All we got was a: be prepared to bribe to get things done otherwise, enjoy! Pep talk.

It was all of that and some more. Our entrance was, as they say in ex-pat parlance: Hard. As opposed to Soft which I will tell you about another day as relates to our exit. It was August. No decent Istanbulu was in town having decamped for the month to points more beautiful along the coast. Our plane had been delayed in Chicago over night. The driver was late and spoke exactly zero words of English. All he had was the address of the flat we had rented sight unseen thanks to the first flat we wanted being rented out from under us (see: be prepared to bribe).

It was hotter than seven hells. We had no food, no a/c, no fans, and no one to help us. For about four hours I sat on my suitcases, sweating and ignoring the absolutely amazing view of the Bosporus from my patio, sulking and ready to go back home. Then help arrived in the form of a couple of guys who would be working for the a**hole who’d dragged me to this Godforsaken country.

They piled us all in a van, took us to the Turkish equivalent of Super Walmart (Carrefour—a French chain that actually INVENTED The “hypermart” concept), and we were stocked, with food, drinks, and friends for life. The place is full of beauty, history, frustration, aggravation on a high scale (just TRY driving there: the roundabout etiquette is not “he who is to the right goes” it is more like “he who has the biggest gonads goes”), lovely people, amazing food, and a dichotomy of life that I personally had never encountered before and never have since.

We went from there to Essex, England. I was always amused by ex-pats there who’d never been anywhere else screeching and moaning about “culture shock.” Please. Driving on the wrong side of the road in the most annoyingly polite society on the planet (don’t get me wrong. England was great in its own way—another story) is nothing compared to facing brown outs, the gendarme harassing me over not having my passport. And I still want to move back there. It just gets in your soul and digs in.

I wrote a series of semi-short stories set in Istanbul around the OneNightStand premise from Decadent Publishing. I loved delving back into the world I’d inhabited, sometimes reluctantly, many times whole heartedly, even at moments angrily. It did that to you, Turkey did. I HIGHLY recommend it. Hell, I may retire there. Many many many Ex-pats have done so.

Just gotta remember to bribe the post man. We went a solid 2 years without mail. Whoopsie.

Cheers,
Liz

TURKISH DELIGHTS

The fifteen year age difference between Elle Kensington, ex-patriat American executive and Emre Deniz, son of Istanbul's most successful businessman, has not kept them from becoming fast friends as they tour Istanbul together. But the time has come for him to return to the U.S. to finish his master's degree and she has just been named CEO of the pharmaceutical company that brought her to Turkey in the first place. Elle adores her adopted country, and is alarmed to find herself falling in love with the young man who's been her impromptu guide for the last few months. But she knows they can never be. She will return home to California within a month, leaving behind all she loves about the ancient city. In a rare fit of spontaneity, Elle has contracted with Madame Eve's OneNightStand dating service to hopefully find a way to forget the dark, handsome young man who has captured her heart. Little does she know what awaits her in the ancient recesses of the Ottoman palace turned luxury hotel under the hands of her one night stand masseur.

BLUE CRUISE:

Caleb and Tarkan were an odd couple, men from two different cultures, but so in love they were determined to overcome any obstacles. Fate had different plans. Two years after tragedy strikes, Caleb is still a hollow shell of himself, alone and miserable. Adem Broussard is happy enough, as owner and chef of his restaurant on the Turkish southern coast. But a tall, American Adonis he saw once, years ago on a Turkish Blue Cruise haunts his most erotic dreams and he hopes contracting with Madame Eve's 1NightStand service for an unconventional date will help him forget. When Caleb caves in to his friend Elle's insistence that he return to Turkey and exorcise some of the demons that haunt him, he reluctantly climbs on board a private yacht for a special 1NightStand Blue Cruise. There he comes face to face with the man who remembers him well, and wants to help him heal.

TULIP PRINCESS

Lale Deniz, young, drifting and prone to wildness that her Turkish family doesn't understand is seeking something to help her reestablish control over her life. Her beloved brother Tarkan has exited her life. His twin, Emre lives far away in America with his growing family. When Elle, Emre's American wife has a scary brush with death giving birth, Lale is dispatched to California to help with their five-year old daughter. But a recovering Elle has plans for Lale that involve a magical 1NightStand. Andreas Michos, Greek former NFL star, now athletic director at UNLV also floats through life, unsuccessfully seeking satisfaction. His former wife and sexual sub left him when he took away the limelight of football stardom. He doubts his own abilities anymore and has given up finding an outlet for his natural Dom. Set against a backdrop of ancient cultural clashes and Mediterranean family dynamics, Lale and Andreas do meet in Las Vegas at the famous Castillos resort for a date. But it seems destined to fail. Unless they are both willing to relinquish control and discover what can be found inside the soul of another.

Bio:
Microbrewery owner, beer blogger and journalist, mom of three teenagers, and soccer fan, Liz lives in the great middle west, in a Major College Town. Years of experience in sales and fund raising, plus an eight-year stint as an ex-pat trailing spouse plus making her way in a world of men (i.e. the beer industry) has prepped her for life as erotic romance author. When she isn't sweating beer inventory, sales figures or promotional efforts for her latest publication, doing pounds of laundry for her sweaty athletic children, watching La Liga on the Fox Soccer Channel, or trying to figure out what to order in for dinner, she can be found walking her standard poodles or doing Bikram Yoga. Liz loves her Foo Fighters Pandora station, and watching reruns of Deadwood, when there isn't any decent European football on the telly. If you want a beer education

Toni's Review of Sleepy Willow's Bonded Soul by Dicey Grenor ***4 Stars***

Ever since vampirism became illegal, the undead have been hunted to near-extinction. So Willow has to watch her back to make sure no one finds out what she is. And that’s not easy considering she’s a vampire with narcolepsy. Predator can become prey at any moment, especially with the skillful Vampire Extermination Team (VET) on the job.

Hoping to blend in with the nightlife, Willow takes advantage of being an animated corpse by performing for necrophiliacs at premiere fetish club Hades. Here, she discovers colleagues with other supernatural secrets. She’s also unexpectedly drawn to Remi, her most loyal fan, despite his deviant sexual nature and personality disorder. But succumbing to her lust is not a good idea since her maistre vampire forbids it.

Now Willow has to outsmart VET agents, escape bounty hunters, and find a cure for narcolepsy…or vampirism. And she’s got to break the bond with her Maistre, no matter how powerful and unrelenting he is.

Most importantly, can she stay awake long enough to do any of it?

*********************

What can I say about this excitingly unique, yet familiar take on vampires? Sleepy Willow’s Bonded Soul is refreshingly different, but it still holds many of the familiar lore of vampirism.

Willow is not your normal vampire. She is a vamp with a problem, she has narcolepsy. Strikingly beautiful and extremely resourceful, Willow has taken her medical condition in stride and into her own hands. After ongoing failures to find a cure, Willow turned to one last option, become a vampire. Well to her surprise it didn’t work and now she is a spiritual woman with a strong belief in good and evil, stuck in a vampire’s soulless body.

While reading I had a sense of her inner turmoil. She grew up in a repressive family, but she still holds a strong belief in God. Slowly you watch her lose her humanity and grasp of her religious beliefs. I could see the reasons why for the changes and completely understood them, but felt her pain and dismay.

I think what I enjoyed the most from this book is that it had a feeling of realism. I know, I know it is about vampires….point is, I felt that if there were vampires then this a nice tidbit into their “real” lives. It was not all glamour, money and perfectness. It was hard, raw and darn it rough. Willow has to work hard to stay safe and well fed. Life is not easy for her and she sometimes has to do things that she really doesn’t want to. I enjoyed that she didn’t use her gifts to hurt people or to get ahead in her undead life. In my opinion, this was a realistic view of typical situations that a vampire would have to deal with if they were living in the here and now.

While the problems that are set forth for the character is many and widely different, they were written in a new way. At first it I was like, “Whoa, too much newness”, but it grew on me. The revelations were many and unexpected. I didn’t have many moments of, “seen that coming”. Secondary characters were just as surprising as Willow. Their differences were well written and uniquely diverse.

I have a feeling that this novel is the start of a very interesting series. The indications in the book were that there was more to come and I really can’t wait. I really enjoyed the freshness of the plot. While I have read more gripping storylines, the pace was steady and solid. This book is a great stepping stone for what is to come. Ms. Grenor has written a universe that has the potential to be original, hot and wonderfully exciting. I’m looking forward to future installments of the adventures of Sleepy Willow.

Thanks for reading - Toni

Research and Realism in the Romance World…..by JL Oiler

Research and Realism in the Romance World…..by JL Oiler

I am one of those readers who devour books that I enjoy. There is nothing like climbing into a story regardless of sub genre and being able to connect with the characters. However, I can’t help but notice that with the increase of availability of reads due to the e-book revolution, that a great number of authors fail to truly think or research the topics/genres they write. I truly believe to grab the author that a story requires elements of realism regardless whether you write paranormal, BDSM, historic, Sci-Fi, or any other of the zillion sub genres out there.
Honestly if you’re going to give me a story about Rodeo then you should research the topic. Learn as much as possible so you’re not just blowing smoke. Believe me readers can peg a fake. It only takes a few careless mistakes to have it all come crashing around you. The same could be said about locations. If you select a real setting, you should at least checkout a map. Nothing worse than discovering the writer has made Garden City Kansas, ocean front property.
Time seems to be the biggest mistake made by authors. I once read a historical book that was great other than one sticking point for me. She had referred to a zoo in that country a good 75 years before the first opened. A simple mistake easily corrected with just a bit of research.
Well enough of my rant, on to something filled with a load of unrealism (I do love paranormal!).

Christmas Angel Ornament or Pins by KYM

Christmas Angel Ornament or Pins

A few years ago a close friend designed these Angels and then kindly taught me how she made them. I use to attend craft shows, and they were always well received. Then I was in a car accident that left me spending 3 years in rehab. A good friend of mine last Christmas asked if I would make her a few for gifts. I wasnt sure I could, but with my "I can do it" attitude, I sat down to try. It may have taken me longer, but finishing that first Angel was a real triumph for me ! So, this year I started at the beginning of fall making these Angels on my "good days". They are made with lots of love, and they have given me alot of enjoyment.

From the people that have ordered them, or I have gifted to..they all exclaim that they are nicer then the photos. They really sparkle, and I hope you will love them for years to come !

I have some of her angels, and they are just fab! ~Deb R.

I gave these as Christmas gifts last year, and everyone LOVE them!!!~ Cindy H.

I know you take great pics, but still, these look so much better in person.....so glad I bought some for me and my kids to share. Awesome! ~Debbie F.

You Have the option of the Angel being made into a PIN to wear, or an ORNAMENT to hang. They are $10.00 and includes shipping if mailed in US. I also offer cute gift boxes at my cost $1.00 which takes away your need for gift wrapping. I will accept, cash or money order. Sorry I dont have paypal.

They are made with silver, gold, or copper colored wire and I have many glass bead options.

I will take orders until December 10th to ensure delivery before Christmas.

Here is a link to see the rest of my Angels and gift box options :

Any questions or if you would like to place an order, contact me at flwrs4ever@yahoo.com

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays !

5 Stars for The Shoppe Of Spells!!!!! 2nd Edition!

When is a whole more than the sum of its parts?

When it has ties to the quaint little town of Ruthorford, GA, as Morgan Briscoe discovers when a cryptic message threatens to change her life forever.

Morgan’s relatively normal life is turned on its ear when she learns not only that she is adopted, but her birth parents are dead and she now holds half-interest in a business with their ward, Dorian Drake. Dorian is running The Shoppe of Spells and despite his riveting good looks, he can barely conceal his hostility toward his new partner.

Morgan discovers that she is more than she seems and together she and Dorian have the ability to control a portal to another dimension.

Unable to control their growing attraction, Morgan and Dorian dance around their desires and her burgeoning abilities, until danger forces them to face their destiny.

~~The Shoppe of Spells is the first in THE GATEKEEPER series.~~

******************************

Adopted and didn't know it..... Morgan finds out her biological parents are dead and she has been left a large sum of money and half a business.  The other half of the business belongs to a man called Dorian who was raised by her biological parents.  Morgan is very weary of Dorian and Ruthorford.  She finds herself unbelievably attracted to Dorian and he helps her learn the traditions and secrets kept by her biological parents.  Things are a lot more dangerous and mysterious then she could even fathom.
Find out how she gets through it all!

I'd like to start my review with the Dedication of the book.  The Author dedicated it to her friend that she had lost just prior to her beginning her book.  She lost her to Cancer.  The dedication she wrote was so heartfelt and touching, having lost loved ones to cancer myself it made me feel even closer to the author and made me feel very lucky to have the chance to read the book dedicated to such a special person in her life.

I also feel lucky to have been able to read this book, it was very intriguing and kept me up very late into the wee hours of the morning.  I had a hard time to put it down.  I love the concept of portals and the paranormal in general.  The idea in this book are somewhat different from others that I have read like it.  The secondary characters also come alive on the pages and I look forward to reading more about them when the next book in this series is out.
I found myself riveted by the relationship and passion that slowly builds between the 2 main characters.  Love that is true in every sense.

I recommend this book all around.  I had to race through it to know what would happen next and I'm sure you'll feel the same way!

What's up? BOOKS READ 'N' MAKEUP DONE

Hi all, been awhile since I posted, I've been pretty exhausted thanks to my new job.  I have not forgotten any of you though.  I am missing you all sooooo much!  I often come onto my blog while at work hoping to catch your comments :) I took a picture of myself this week to show you how I looked for work.  I am also going to answer a question that was posted by a fellow blogger about how I manage to get my reading done for reviews while working full-time and running a family.  I'm also going to give ya a makeup tip.  I figured I'd make up or some lost time lol.

  1. Question from Talina of Bookin It Reviews!!!  How do you manage to read and work....tips would really help! ;-)
Answer:

When I'm working I sometimes read during my lunch break while eating, in the evening between calls if it's a quiet night at work I am able to read a bit also.  Another way is after work while doing my housework I set my Kindle to read to me and I listen to it with headphones.  When I have time off from work and have a calm moment I read.  Another thing I do is when we leave the house I bring whatever book I'm reading with me and read while going places or if we stop somewhere I'll whip out my book and read.  So yeah, that's how I manage to do it.  When I have a spare moment or a chance I either read the book myself or have my kindle read to me. :D

Alright now how about a Makeup tip???

A Great Idea for a quick and easy makeup look for the Holidays is to put on a Shimmer shadow with just a black eyeliner.  This look can take as little as 5 minutes.
You put a bit of shimmer eyeshadow on the tip of your ring finger (it's the gentlest finger to apply makeup on your eyes) and slide it across your eyelid and the crease, up to your eyebrow bone.  Apply black eyeliner to you to your top eyelash line and lower, smudge it a little. Apply Mascara, black or Blue and your set to go!
Here's a picture!

Hope you liked my post today!  Please do leave me a comment :)  I'll be checking them either home or at work!

HUGS!!!

Please Welcome Author Lacey Wolfe! Author of Amber's Muse

Lacey Wolfe

My advice to new writer’s.

I have been asked a few times if I had any advice for new writers. I scratched my head and wondered, why are you asking me? I am a brand spankin’ new author myself. Then I thought, maybe I do have some advice. This is all fresh in my head and maybe I just might have something useful to say.

The first thing I would say, forget the word aspiring if you’re using it. If you’re writing, then you’re a writer. Maybe you aspire to be published, but you aren’t for writing. Believe in yourself first and others will follow.

My next suggestion would be to get on twitter. At first I even thought authors would be sort of like celebs, stuck on themselves. Nope, wrong. They are super sweet and accepting. In fact, they want to congratulate you and see you succeed! Authors aren’t selfish and want all the glory for only themselves. The community on twitter is just awesome. If you’re having a bad day, there are surly five authors there to tell you they went through this too and it will get better. Share your rejections with them, and they laugh. They get them too and you will survive.

Another piece of advice is to submit your story and expect rejection. Rejection letters are never mean. The publisher never tells you flat out you suck. They tell you where you could improve. My first novella Amber’s Muse had about ten drafts before it was finally accepted. I learned so much from fellow authors and the rejection letters.

And my last piece of advice would be to find a few supportive readers who will be honest. You need someone who can say, “No, that didn’t work.” Instead of someone who just says, “It was great.” Remember, you want to get published, so you need to be critiqued. To learn more about me and what I am working on, head over to my website, www.laceywolfe.com

Amber's Muse

Lacey Wolfe

Sometimes it’s the person you least expect who can satisfy all your desires
By day Amber’s a librarian, and by night she hides away writing erotic romance novels. She has just one problem—not enough sexual experience to pull from. A recent steamy dream leaves Amber wondering if her neighbor Jax might be just the guy who can help her. He seems almost perfect to use as a sexual guinea pig, especially since she doesn’t have to worry about falling in love with him.
Jax has lived next door to Amber for a year and has tried everything he can think of to get her to notice him, but it hasn’t worked. Until recently. When Amber approaches him asking for his help, he’s ready to jump on board. When he learns exactly what kind of help she needs, he’s definitely willing.
Becoming involved with someone like Jax simply isn’t an option for Amber. He barely works, can’t manage his money, and has no ambition in life. So why does he suddenly seem so right for her?

It's always been my dream to be a writer. Ever sense I was a child, creating stories has been a passion of mine. I have always said that one day I would be an author. Finally, I am working on this dream of mine. I have two children who have been keeping me busy for the past 7 years. My youngest is starting pre-k this year and I have more time for me and to concentrate on what I want out of this life. So I am picking up pen and paper...well I guess keyboard and screen, and working on this dream. It isn't going to be easy. There will be many ups and downs, but I am ready. I know this dream will come true, my mom told me so, "You can be anything you want to be when you grow up." Thanks mom, here goes nothing!

I had the pleasure of reading this book.  It was very good.
I enjoyed the sexiness of it and the characters, the uncertainty in each of them. I was able to relate to Amber and Jax though my life is so different from theirs.
The author describe them so well that I feel I understood them and was able to go through the ups and downs with them.
This story was creative and very enjoyable.  The love scenes are sizzling and steamy,  well written and thoroughly fun to read.
I recommend this read to anyone who adores Erotic Romance with a twist of fate.

A New Beginning- First day of work after 12 years.

It's been 12 years since I last worked.  12 years since I last got up early in the morning and fixed myself up and put on business clothes, made myself a bagged lunch.  It was the first time I kissed my children and said "Have good day,"  on my way out the door and saying "see you after work," to my husband.
I have to say it was quite surreal.  I had to tell myself over and over again that this wasn't just for one day but I would doing this often from now on.  I was sad not to be home to greet the kids but extremely happy to be making new friends and having conversations with other adults.

My first day started off with me climbing a ton of stairs and being greeted by a cheerful lady.  I was seriously out of breath but kept a smile plastered on because I was happy to be there.  The lady brought me to the training room, I took off my jacket and scarf while surveying the area.  Someone else had already set up their belongings at one of the desks.  The other Trainee arrived as I seated myself.   We said our Hellos and the day began.
Information, Information, Information!
I was bombarded with Facts, Stats and Policies.

My first day was great but has left me reeling, my brain is overfull and spinning.
LOL
I look forward to tomorrow and learning some more, it feels good to know that I haven't lost myself or my work ethics over the years and that I can still do a job and not just be mom.
It was a pleasure to arrive home and be mom again, though I was tired I was able to appreciate my time with my family even more and it reminded me not to take it for granted.
My wonderful hubby made my first day even more special by giving me a clean home to come to, dinner and a wonderful Cake that said "Congrats! We love you"
Yes I am tearing up, I love my family and I am so thankful for them.

Cheers to a new beginning and another new adventure!

My Review of Secret Santa by Kristine Cheney 5 STARS!!!!!

Holly Gordon’s estrangement from her family makes loneliness of the Christmas season hit close to home. Volunteering for the annual Ashton Falls Secret Santa Program is more than a comfort, it’s a blessing. Just knowing she’s able to help another hurting soul experience the joy of a heartfelt Christmas makes her own reality a tiny bit sweeter, that is, until Marcus Jenner ends up on her list.

Marcus Jenner is more than a bronze, muscled looker. This Chickasaw loner isn’t happy being placed on the town’s Secret Santa list. Suffering from the blow of a devastating loss, he has chosen to withdraw from living almost completely. For the life of him, he can’t figure why this pretty little blonde keeps bumping into him, calling him by name, and insisting on giving him presents. Unfortunately for Marcus, every time she does, a billowing cloud of havoc seems to ensue. Why can’t this uninvited vixen leave him alone?

They say time and fate have all of the answers. Holly, in all of her innocence, is drawn to Marcus like a moth to the flame. But Marcus has no intentions of submitting to the threat of his newfound feelings. A painful exchange pushes their lives into a pendulum chaos. His demand for privacy is granted by Holly’s hidden illness. Her sudden absence hits him hard, especially when the arrival of a stranger delivers the rest of his gifts. Right away, he knows something’s horribly wrong.

Love and selfless giving can rouse a wounded, sleeping heart. But sometimes a Secret Santa gets a few unexpected gifts of her own.

*******************
This book was wonderful, heart warming and just Superb.  I loved it.
Holly is a character that immediately captures your heart and makes you want to strive at being a more caring and loving person.
Marcus is a heartbroken handsome man who is in need of cheering up.  But, he doesn't want to be cheered up, he just wants to be left alone.
Holly's perseverance throughout this book is remarkable.  She is so beautiful on the inside and out, you can't help but fall in love with her.
This book made me laugh and cry.
It made it a bit hard to get my painting done because I was listening to the book and had to stop a couple of times to wipe away my tears.

I highly recommend this book to all, this is such a heart warming lovely story. I like it so much that I am even attaching the link to Amazon for you to buy it and I never do that in my reviews.  I just feel everyone should read this.  It's going in my Favourite books category.
