Thanks so much Kristie for being our guest!

Genesis: A Soul Savers Novella is a bit different from the other Soul Savers books. Although the fantasy world I created is the same, the real world is not. After all, it takes place over 2,000 years ago, around 200 B.C. So it required a lot of research to understand life in Greece during that era. For each stop along the release tour, I’m sharing something I learned and how it ties into the story.

It’s no secret the Greeks were a polytheistic culture. We all learned about their many gods and goddesses, read the Iliad and the Odyssey, and know the stories – and have seen the movies - about how the gods rewarded, punished and interacted with the humans.

Lesser known, however, is that city-states each had one god or goddess they worshipped most and it wasn’t always Zeus. Specific food was eaten while thinking about a particular god or goddess and domesticated animals (cows, pigs, goats, sheep, etc.) were only eaten when sacrificed for a religious festival.

And even lesser known is that some philosophies worshipped a single deity. This isn’t well documented, though, because it wasn’t common.

In Genesis, the main characters were raised to believe in the One Almighty God, much as the Jews of the time had been, although they didn’t consider themselves Jewish. It all comes back to their Father – who he is and why he taught his children what he did. Their uncommon beliefs created conflict and problems, especially for Cassandra who fell in love with a traditional Greek man. I’ll let you read it to find out what happens.

Today I have a prize of a Soul Savers Swag Bag for one lucky commenter. Your comments also earn you entries for the Grand Prize to be awarded at the end of the tour. For more details and how to earn extra entries, visit http://www.kristiecook.com/2011/10/genesis-release-tour-giveaways.html

Things must have been really confusing back then. If you moved to a new town, did that mean that you now had to get used to worshiping a new god? or were you allowed to keep your old beliefs. What a hoot!

Thanks for posting! Look forward to reading this book.
