BOOKS READ 'N' MAKEUP DONE

Do you ever reach the end of the year and think “wow, where did this year go?” I do, and I find that I did some of the things on my list, but there are many things that I just didn’t have the time, or money, for. As usual, I have a lot planned for the New Year:

As an author, I have to keep up a publishing schedule. I am currently writing the third Reed Ferguson mystery (hold on to your socks, it should be rip-roaring fun to read). Some may not know this, but I also have a supernatural thriller available, called Nephilim Genesis of Evil. It’s the first in a trilogy and my readers are demanding that I finish the trilogy, so I have that on my plate as well. I’m really looking forward to completing it because I love the characters, and the budding romance between Rory and Anna has been fun to develop. I also have a middle-grade novel that I just got back from my editor, so I have to get that published as well. And of course, in this day and age of publishing, I always have a ton of marketing to do.

But it’s not all about the writing. I am a cyclist (not a great one, but I enjoy riding) so I’m sure I’ll participate in at least one organized ride this summer. Last summer I completed my first century (100 mile ride). I doubt I’ll do that again, but I’m sure the ride will be at least 50 miles. I live in Colorado, and I’m hiking my way up all of our fourteeners (peaks that are at least 14,000 feet high), so you’ll find me on a mountaintop this summer as well.
I’m a voracious reader, but I’ve been so busy this year that I haven’t read as much as I usually do. I hope to change that in 2012. I love to spend time with family and friends too, and I do a fair amount of volunteer work. I go on outings at a nursing home, and I also am helping to translate a whale journal from the 1860’s (it’s fascinating to see what the whaling life was like). I love to travel so I hope to get out of the country at least once next year (I want to climb Kilimanjaro for my birthday next November, if I can swing the cost).
Whew! I think I’m worn out just thinking about all I have on my list.
I hope everyone out there has a great 2012, whatever you plan to do. Be sure that reading my books is on your list J

A wannabe private eye with a love of film noir and detective fiction.
A rich, attractive femme fatale.
A missing husband.
A rollicking ride to a dark and daring ending.

Excerpt:

“I want you to find my dead husband.”

“Excuse me?” That was my first reaction.

“I want you to find my husband. He’s dead, and I need to know where he is.” She spoke in a voice one sexy note below middle C.

“Uh-huh.” That was my second reaction. Really slick.

Moments before, when I saw her standing in the outer room, waiting to come into my office, I had the feeling she’d be trouble. And now, with that intro, I knew it.

“He’s dead, and I need you to find him.” If she wasn’t tired of the repetition, I was, but I couldn’t seem to get my mouth working. She sat in the cushy black leather chair on the other side of my desk, exhaling money with every sultry breath. She had beautiful blond hair with just a hint of darker color at the roots, blue eyes like a cold mountain lake, and a smile that would slay Adonis. I’d like to say that a beautiful woman couldn’t influence me by her beauty alone. I’d like to say it, but I can’t.

Renée Pawlish was born in California, but has lived most of her life in Colorado. When she's not hiking, cycling, or chasing ballplayers for autographs, she is writing mysteries and thrillers that include the Reed Ferguson mysteries, Nephilim Genesis of Evil, the first in the Nephilim trilogy, Take Five, a short story collection, and The Sallie House: Exposing the Beast Within, a non-fiction account of a haunted house investigation.

Renée loves to travel and has visited numerous countries around the world. She has also spent many summer days at her parents' cabin in the hills outside of Boulder, which was the inspiration for the setting of Taylor Crossing in her novel Nephilim: Genesis of Evil.

Thanks Read 'N' Makeup Done for having me!
Marybelle, I hired Graphiczx to do the cover, but I had a lot of input. I wanted something that had the old film noir feel to it. I'm glad you love it, I do to! I hope you pick up This Doesn't Happen In The Movies because readers are certainly enjoying it, and I think you will too.
Thanks for your comment.

Hi again Renee,

I don't recall if you mentioned this (you may have but I forget) how many Reed Ferguson books do you plan to write?
Renee Pawlish said…
Hi Karen - I plan to write at least five or six Reed Ferguson books. It depends on how things are going with the characters - I don't ever want to reach a point where the stories aren't fresh anymore. My personal opinion is that a lot of mainstream series get this way - the author is writing because he/she is making money but the series isn't working anymore. I don't want to do that. So I'll see where it goes, and what my readers think. I am working on the third Reed Ferguson book, and it should be out in February or March.
Thanks for your question!

Hi Renee! I've read Nephilim and enjoyed it. It reminded me to read more thrillers :)

Thanks Na, I hope you try the Reed Ferguson mysteries, they may not be "thrillers" but they are great reads!
And thank you Chelsea, life is busy, but fun!

This sounds like a fun book -- very much like a Humphrey Bogart movie!
